Section 50 Licence Application Process

Section 50 applications are an essential piece of legislation required for works on drains and sewers that run under the public highway, and we're one of the few South East London, Essex and Kent companies to take care of the whole process.

Before any work can be carried out making a sewer connection to the mains, a Section 50 licence is required to install or operate equipment like sewage pipes under the public highway.

Making a sewer connection often requires digging up roads, paths and kerbs to access the mains system, and of course the sewage pipes stay in place forever under an indefinite Section 50 licence; it's the same paperwork used for gas, electricity and water services.

A Section 106 licence is also required; a more specialist piece of paperwork for making connections to mains sewers, just like the Section 50 applications, we take care of all the paperwork including risk assessments and method statements for the complete project.

We designed our connections and installations services to be comprehensive packages of works, for some drainage companies that just means digging a whole, doing the job, and filling it back in. At South East Drainage we believe in delivering to the highest standards, making good disturbed roadways, paths and landscaping at the end of the project, but also taking care of everything at the front end of the process, including the Section 50 applications.

Councils issues the licence for an administrative fee, and with over 20 years experience in water supply and drainage services we have long standing relationships with local councils, water companies and water boards, which ensures everything runs quickly and smoothly.

And as a service extra, we also take care of all on-site liaison and inspections with these organisations, ensuring that every part of the installation meets building and safety standards and regulations so that it is approved for mains sewer connection. We take pride in delivering quality work for clients whether they are large building contractors or rural homeowners, and taking care of the paperwork ensures we can deliver the very best all-round customer service experience.

Our team and company are fully qualified and certified to carry out works on and around the public highway, with NRSWA certification as standard across all engineers. We are also SafeContractor, Rated People and CITB accredited
